I couldn't not pay a day to Versailles on our visit to Paris. A place of opulence, grandeur and sheer beauty, it was an absolute no-brainer for me. If you're heading there during peak season I would highly recommend spending a few more euros to purchase a timed ticket online. The line to buy tickets at the palace is horrendously long and it is honestly not worth wasting your time in a queue.
We firstly made our way through the beautiful palace (with an audio guide, of course)and then spent majority of the day in the enormous grounds and gardens. Versailles is truly magnificent, especially in the summertime, so I made sure to dress the part! I love a good shirt dress and managed to snag this C&M one in the sales before I left Sydney and I'm so so in love with it! I love the shape created by the billowing top and the ruching around the waist. The details are so unsuspecting but they create a piece that really does all the work for you. And because it's a cotton fabric and fully lined, it's so easily dressed up and down so I know I'm going to be getting my wear out of it. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with a white skirt dress. It was also surprisingly breezy (It was absolutely boiling that day) too despite the lining! And believe it or not, I even managed to ride a bike in it around the gardens!
In the gardens, they provide bicycles of all sorts, and golf carts you can hire to ride around the gardens. as well as peddle boats for the lake. The grounds are absolutely ginormous and impossible explore on a hot European summer's day on foot. Jordan and I hired up a tandem bike and it was honestly such a nice way to see the grounds and offered a more of a holistic view (thank you, Jordan, for doing a lot of the work). And by foot, there are so many little pockets in the gardens of different monuments and statues which you had to walk through huge hedges and trees.
The whole experience was totally breathtaking and I cannot wait for the day to go back!
