We finished up our month away in the beautiful city of Bath and here I managed to whip out my favourite new COS shirt (or rather a quarter of a shirt). If there's one thing that a European summer holiday provides, it's the consistent hot weather, so much so we were even hit with the hottest heatwave the UK has ever known.
As well as wearing as little as humanly possible (and appropriate), I found myself weathering a lot of white to keep those rays reflecting off me as much as possible. I've never managed to wear white so consistently, so I picked up a few styling tips and tricks along the way so thought I would share my tips on how to master wearing all white.
1. Yes, you can layer in summer
One of my absolute favourite little white OOTD's was this one I wore in Bath one day and it of course incorporated my favourite Reformation slip dress.
I've had this Ref slip dress in my collection for about two years and it served me so damn well on my trip. The silk is so beautiful and shiny, and the loose fit makes it such a versatile and comfortable piece. I actually very rarely wear it on its own and prefer to layer it up 90% of the time. Layering with a white tee underneath is the first and obvious choice but I opted to layer it a bit differently this time. You can most certainly layer in summer as long as the pieces have large shapes and are made out of natural materials, so its super breezy and comfortable!
2. Play with textures Playing with textures is always my go-to whenever I want to dress in one hue and its no different when it comes to whites. Exploring different textures is definitely a little harder in the warmer months just simply because you can't wear as many pieces but I guarantee you'll already have plenty in your wardrobe. I love the way the Ref slip catches the light and the shirt remains bright white adding a lot of dimension to otherwise a very simple outfit.
3. It doesn't have to be all 'white'
When it comes to wearing lighter shades, I've discovered the more variation in hues, the better the outfit! The contrast between lighter shades is so small, so even if you're wearing three different shades of cream it honestly doesn't hurt the eyes. Meaning you've probably already got plenty of pieces (I know I did) already in your closet just waiting to be paired together - the perfect opportunity to shop your stash.
Those are my three handy tips when it comes to mastering wearing all white. Let me know if you've got any tips when it comes to dipping your toes into those delicate whites.
