I've been having a total beauty obsession the past couple of months and I've been especially adventurous with trying new products! I will do my best to try and put together a list of beauty favourites monthly because I know it can be super helpful and I know I love hearing other bloggers' monthly favs! It could very well end up every second month though, just because I like to try products for a decent amount of time so that I am the most informed I can be. Now, that the rambling is over, let's get to the products!
First on the list is this Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter (Shade 3 Light/Medium) and L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow foundation (Shade 204). I had heard so much about this Charlotte Tilbury product and was really excited to try it. I had heard there were multiple ways to use it and there is nothing really else like it on the market, so it seemed really intriguing! The first step, was trying to figure out how to integrate it into my everyday routine and I didn't want it to make my routine inefficient in anyway. One of the uses is that it can supposedly be worn on its own as a light foundation and even though it does have this gorgeous lit-from-within finish it has virtually no coverage. It can also be used as a primer but I find primers an unnecessary step for everyday and it seemed like a waste of time to put this in as an extra step. Then, I tried mixing it in with foundations to see if I could get this product to work for me - because I really wanted it to work! Mixed in with the MAC Studio Fix Fluid, it actually ended up breaking the foundation down faster and by the end of the day the foundation had separated on my face which was not a great look. So, then I thought this product isn't suited to high coverage matte foundations and that brings to me to the L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow foundation. This is again another product I had heard many beauty bloggers and Youtubers rave on about and I totally forgot about it until Priceline had a sale and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pick it up! Man, does this foundation pack a punch. It builds quite a lot of coverage with very little product and I easily overdid it the first couple of times I used it. It also has a really good lasting power throughout the day and is probably the most comparable foundation to my holy grail Estee Lauder Double Wear Light foundation. Also, I don't find it to be that glowy and has a much more satin/natural finish rather than dewy.
So, I ended up one day mixing the two together to sheer the L'Oreal Pro-Glow foundation more and BAM that was the winning combination! I have been wearing this combination almost everyday for the last three weeks and I absolutely love it. I found the best way was to place two lots of the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter on the back of my hand and to mix a pea size amount of the L'Oreal Pro-Glow foundation in. The amount of coverage is perfect and my skin literally looks like has a filter. I'm totally obsessed and don't think I'll be using another foundation combo for a while!
My next beauty favourite is this cute little bronzer from the new brand Models Own. I've never heard or tried anything from Models Own but they recently at Priceline here and some of their products looked high quality! I decided to pick up their Sculpt & Glow Bronzing Powder because it seemed like a gorgeous shade (matte and not orange!) and the packaging was so slick and cute!
I love that the packaging is super slick and light so it's really convenient for travelling. The ripple effect is also just so beautiful! There aren't too many matte bronzers at the drugstore these days and so I definitely wanted to give this one a go. I really love this product, and even though the shade is slightly warmer than other bronzers I own it still works really well on skin tone. The texture is more powdery than buttery but it still blends really smoothly on the skin. I'm really impressed with this drugstore find and I am definitely going to be trying more from Models Own!
I have two major skincare favourites from the past month and the first one is this Mermaid Oil from Salt by Hendrix. Ugh, firstly the packaging is so beautiful and luxe. Not only does this product look pretty on your bathroom counter, but it's totally lush on the skin too. I first started using this oil to mix in with the Clinique Moisture Surge moisturiser as I was finding my skin still felt dry after applying the moisturiser on its own and it worked wonders. With the change in seasons and stress from uni, my skin has been more dehydrated lately and this Mermaid Oil just left my skin feeling so fresh and hydrated. I would also note, that even though the packaging claims it is a light oil, it is definitely on the heavier side and so I used it every night and sometimes in the morning. A little goes a long way and it probably looks like I've hardly used any but you only need about 3-4 drops per use. It also has a lovely fresh citrus scent that I really love, however, if you are sensitive to fragrances, it's probably wise to steer clear from this product.
The second skincare product is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum which is no new product to me and I'm actually nearing the end of my second bottle. I honestly did not expect to love this product when I first tried it mid last year as I wasn't a big believer in expensive skincare products - because honestly you can find really good skincare products at the drugstore. So, I kind of hate that I love this product, because it is so expensive.
So let me tell you why I think you should invest in this product. I use this product as my serum step, so after cleansing and before my moisturiser. My skin is so much firmer, smoother and more youthful appearing since using this product. It also feels amazing on the skin, very cooling and soothing and you can give yourself a little facial/massage every night. I have been especially loving this product the past month, as I said that my skin has been more dehydrated lately, so it has really been a skin saviour!
I have yet, another foundation combo that I've been loving over the past couple months and they are the MAC Studio Fix Fluid and MAC Face and Body (Shade C3) foundations. I first picked up the Face & Body in February as I had heard amazing reviews, and the buildable, dewy finish seemed totally up my alley. I really love this foundation, especially since its so versatile. I personally love putting a light layer and it just has the a really nice dewy finish on the skin. But it has also been great to mix in with all my other foundations to add glow and sheer them out.
I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to try the Studio Fix Fluid for an Instagram job and in store they showed me how to customise it to my needs. I wouldn't have normally been attracted to the Studio Fix Fluid as it is known to be mate and full coverage. However, the lovely lady at the store applied the MAC Strobe Cream (which is so hydrating and glowy) and then also mixed it in with the foundation to create a nice light and sheer base. If you're on the market for a new matte high coverage foundation, then I would definitely look at the Studio Fix Fluid, but for me personally on it's own is too heavy.
I decided to mix the two MAC foundations together and this was totally my jam. The Face & Body provided some much needed dewiness and thinned out the thick consistency while the Studio Fix Fluid gave my base lasting power and a little more coverage. I know it seems really excessive to mix two foundations together and I am not at all recommending you go out and buy two foundations! I just wanted to show that you can totally customise your base products to give you different effects.
This Clarins Instant Natural Light Lip Perfector was the biggest rediscovery of the past month. I used to love this product about 2-3 years ago and I forgot how much I love this lip product! It's a great medium between a lip balm and a gloss/sheer lipstick as it's nourishing and with a hint of colour and shine. It has a doe-foot applicator at the end where the product squeezes out to make it really easy to apply, especially on the go. I just find it such a handy lip product to use and bring around with me. It also smells like chocolate!
My second last fav on this month is Lancome Monsieur Big mascara which was very unexpected because I did not like this product when I first tried it. Compared to my favourite YSL Babydoll, the huge brush was really difficult for me to use at first and I ended up with mascara all over my eyelids for the first couple of weeks. I didn't want to waste the product though so I just persevered and kept trying to make it work for me. It turns out the brush just takes some getting used to, especially since the YSL mascara has a very thin plastic brush and the formula is much drier. Now that I'm used to the big bristle brush, it creates a really nice curl in my lash with loads of volume without even having to curl my eyelashes! The mascara also lasts really well during the day, with no flaking whatsoever, and holds the curl. I definitely want to get my hands on new waterproof version!
My last beauty favourite is the Glossier Stretch Concealer (Shade medium). You guys have probably heard enough about Glossier and this concealer but I have to give it a mention because it's been a huge favourite over the last month. I often find concealers quite difficult to work with and they always end up creasing and aging me about 5 years. But this concealer is just the perfect consistency and coverage for me. The consistency is very dewy and almost wet, so definitely not for everyone, but it makes it super easy to blend. It's also perfect to wear without foundation on those less-makeup days where you just need some coverage under your eyes and around your nose.
And that's it! I had a lot of thoughts to share as I've said I've been using some of these products for a long but I hope you found it helpful. Stay tuned for the next monthly favs.
