Now that the cooler weather has really set in, I have felt really inspired to spice up my winter wardrobe. I am heading to Melbourne this week and I found packing really difficult - even for just a 4 day trip! The packing process really forced me to confront the styling difficulties I have when it comes to winter dressing. I find the process of putting together an outfit quite overwhelming as layering is the key but not always so easy. But there have been a few new purchases this year that I have loved wearing and make the process of winter dressing that little bit easier.
The latest purchase is this Maje leather jacket. Oh my goodness, I am utterly obsessed with this jacket! I first tried it on last year, but I was not a fan of the embroidery, I thought it made the jacket too feminine and not classic enough. Then, I saw Lizzy Hadfield's Testing Basics video on leather jackets and this jacket was the winner. I have recently been loving Lizzy Hadfield from Shot From The Street and her Testing Basics series on Youtube. She picks 5 items in a specifc catagory - white shirts or heeled boots for instance - ranging from low end to high end. She then proceeds to wear them all for a week or two and finally places them all. Her videos provide a lot of information about the fit, material and how they wash, which all in all determines whether you need to invest or if the high street does it just as well. I very quickly became obsessed with this jacket and managed to snag it on sale and been wearing it everyday since!
Firstly, the leather quality is really next level and has a very vintage feel and look to it. The jacket it very weighty which I personally love and is perfect for the winter time. The overall fit and details of the jacket I also really love and felt I was worth my money. The sleeves are the perfect length and fitted around my arms, which is something I find quite hard when looking for jackets in general due to my petite frame. I also love the cropped shape with the belt. The details are everything too, not only from the embroidery, but the hardware, buttons and collar. I would definitely recommend Maje to look into if you're on the hunt for a leather jacket!
Another firm favourite of mine has been the COMME des GARCON PLAY tshirt. The price of these tees may seem extortionate but I promise you it's worth it. You are paying for the branding, but the quality of the tshirt is really worthwhile. The thick material provides structure to the piece especially tucked into high waisted bottoms. I also find it incredibly easy to style as the red heart provides a little something but not too overbearing like a slogan tee. I also feel like you can't go wrong with a white tee in your wardrobe!
I have also been trying my best to venture into midi skirts, as they are a great alternative to jeans in the winter time. This August Street skirt is such an effortless piece - all the layering does all the work for you!
Lastly, I have been all about the statement earrings! It is such a quick and easy fix to a simple outfit of a knit and jeans. These Reliquia ones have been such a staple and the gold really pops with any outfit - however I am considering purchasing the silver ones too!
